Change of Feed Address

Dear Wubbers,

As some of you might know, Feedburner was acquired by Google and many things are changing with the feeds hosted with Feedburner. In the past few days, Google has moved WUB's feed over to Google's own servers and the feed address has been changed. For those of you reading WUB in a feed reader, you might not have noticed a change or even a glitch. The old feed address (http://feeds.feedburner.com/wub) still works and will continue to work until an uncertain day. I would advise all feed subscribers to change WUB's feed address to the new address which is (http://feedproxy.google.com/wub). As of now, the old address would re-direct to the new address and thus there is nothing much to worry.

Feedburner still remains one of the best places to host feeds with so much of cool little features and goodness. A Google owned Feedburner would be even more neat and faster. We would continue to host our feed with Feedburner in the future too.

New Resolutions

It's been a long long time without any news from me, here at WUB. During the past couple of months I have been quite busy (look how busy am I) with work and my personal life. On the way, I tried to keep in touch with WUB and things turned out well. I enjoyed reading the various posts (from Mel's inspirational posts to Jim's experienced posts to Shop Girl's outfits). WUB has filled my lonely moments with joy and information. Equally, I have been trying to serve WUB with all my efforts and strength. This post is to sum up some such efforts.

On the 10th of June, a new blog called WUB Status was created. It records updates, issues and anything else worth logging. I have been recording updates since the start of this year and the new status blog adds a new step to it. WUB Status can be accessed at http://wubstatus.blogspot.com.
On the 20th of July, we had a post with some incorrect HTML code, posted by a wubber. The post distorted the design of WUB which was ugly indeed. I kindly advise all wubbers not to include any incorrect HTML codes in your posts, specially avoid copy pasting from other articles/pages. As a last step, please do not ignore error messages from blogger while you post. While trying to correct the issue, I had to revert to the last backed-up template (lucky that I had back-ups). I cannot miss to thank my girl friend for her help in the process. ;)
On the 22nd of July, a twitter timeline for WUB was created. News posts to WUB are automatically posted to the timeline via a service called twitterfeed. If you have a twitter account, you can follow WUB at http://twitter.com/worldub.

I thank and congratulate all the wubbers for the tireless efforts and the unending interest towards WUB.

Congratulations to all the WUBbers (World United Bloggers / bloggers at WUB)! WUB has just reached the 1,000th post mark. It's been a long and successful journey towards peace, here at WUB since the first post on 7th October 2007 by Sharm and thus the birth of WUB. On this auspicious occasion of the 1,000th post mark, I send many thanks and best wishes on behalf of all of us here at WUB to our chief, Sharm, for his innovative ideas and for all the hard work he has done and is doing towards WUB. Specially for fulfilling the almost impossible dream of bringing bloggers from all around the world under one roof for the sole purpose of love and peace. It is his tireless efforts and dedication which has made WUB the place it is today. Congratulations and thanks once again, Sharm.

If you are wondering which post is the 1,000th post, let me proudly reveal that the 1,000th post is too a peace related post by the peace-loving blogger, Arthur, the musical boy from Argentina. The post titled World Hold on! shows his interest toward music as well. By the way, he has a blog dedicated to music too. It is here.

During the course of nearing the 1,000th post, we had disccussions with the moderators and admins at WUBG (the moderators group) about a post and a picture for marking the 1,000th post. We ended up with several nice and lovable pictures and designs, but couldd not make it to a conclusion (maybe we haven't had a sexy picture. right, Jim?). So, I decided to post the most appealing 4 pictures of them and here theey are (sorry, I couldn't exclude anymore pictures). Click on the links to view the pictures.

Updates! Updates!

Last week has been an interesting week for me after a compelling and equally exciting week away from work and yet another week of catching-up. Although I was away from work, I couldn't resist reading Mel's (oops! others included too) interesting posts at WUB. I have had to apply my talent of patience as I didn't have access to internet other than my phone's GPRS. But then the GPRS sucks and has always been hated by people like me here in Maldives.

Well, let's come to the point here. What did I say in the title. Oh! Yes, we had quite a few (actually not few this time) updates to WUB.

Number one should be the label cloud which you will find in the sidebar box just below the shout-box. I have loved it for so long and hope you guys are going to love it too.

Next is the translation options. We have seen and heard some visitors complaining about the old translation links. So we have much more translation options in a much less space now. In addition, there is my favourite "Automatic" translation option which translates the current page to whatever language you can read. Trust me, you are going to love it as much as me.

Last but not the least, is the FeedBurner feed count just below the subscription links. It should provide you a view of how many are reading WUB with their feed readers.

In addition (my list isn't getting long, right?), there are a few back-end updates to make the blog's loading even faster. With all these new features WUB isn't getting any slower but faster. Bet me! ;)

WUB Statistics

Being members of WUB we always encourage your participation and interactivity in WUB. We always encourage peace-loving articles at WUB and have seen many of them in the past few days. During the past few weeks we felt that you should be given one more way to participate more at WUB. It really doesn't matter if you are a contributor, a commentor or just a visitor, we have always been trying hard to keep WUB as your blog, everyone's blog.

So here it is, these are real time visitor statistics of WUB (updated every millisecond - yes it is). I know there is no chance anyone is going to ask for details because it already has all those. You can also access this from the top menu bar (look for the "Stats" link).

Note: The stats page uses AJAX (never mind if you dont know). If you are not able to see the stats, I would recommend using a newer browser.

We are also making WUB statistics available as a Google Gadget. Click the button below to add it to your personalized Google home page.

Image URL of WUB Logo Changed

Within the past couple of days (even at the time of this posting), you might have noticed that the WUB logo is not displayed in the blogs where they have the WUB code. We have been notified and have acted upon to find a solution. Apparently the image did not display as we have passed the bandwidth of the hosting provider for the image. We have been hosting the image in FreeWebTown and they impose a monthly limit of 2GB on the bandwidth. Thus once it passed the 2GB limit, the image did not display.

Presumably, it would reset the bandwidth at some stage and display the image again. But, we managed to find a better solution, specially to avoid repetition of this issue in the future. We are now hosting the image at imageshack.us, which has a bandwidth of 100MB per hour which is more reasonable. The current image is here:

For all the people who have the WUB code in their blogs, we would appreciate if you could change the image URL to the above. We apologize for the inconveniences caused and request your kind attention on this.

Note: this only applies to Google Blogger blogs only. We would be adding support for other blogging services in the near future.

The BIG BUG Solved!

I guess everybody is well aware of the bug we were having in WUB. Drafts/Posts get duplicated and posting takes so much time while deleting a post is almost like impossible. Well, after some efforts in pushing the Blogger Support to rectify the bug or provide us alternative solutions, we at last have a success today.

The bug has been corrected and drafts/posts no longer gets duplicated. Blogger Support has not come back saying this but I did some experimenting and came to conclusions. At last the BIG BUG has been solved. It would come as an ever-waiting relief for our fellow bloggers as well as us, the Admin Team. We would be looking forward for an official confirmation from Blogger Support, though.

Still there is one point to be noted while posting to WUB. WUB is a bigger blog with much large number of posts and much wider traffic (visitors) from all around the world. Thus, posting to WUB will take some time. But it's no more the delay we had before, but much more faster. Please be patient while you post.

Thanks guys, for bearing with us for a long time with such an irritating thing and hope everyone would kindly help me to delete their own duplicate drafts/posts in WUB. I myself would be deleting them as well.

New Features in WUB

We have added some new features which makes the presentation and professionalism of WUB more easier and manageable. One of the features added, the Announcements box in the sidebar displays the recent announcements made in WUB. This feature would in turn make life easier for all of you searching for update notices, announcements, ect in WUB.

The second feature we added is the Recent Posts box in the sidebar. This has been done as the number of posts displayed on the homepage is limited and to give an alternative than just searching around. Still, if you want to read a specific post be free to use the fully functioning search box at the top.

The last, but not the least, feature we added is the Digg button at the top-left corner of each post. If you need an explanation, Digg is a service which uses voting (digging) to promote and popularize blog posts around the blogosphere. The more diggs you get, the more popular your post will be and there is always a chance to get a chance from the popular pages, whereby you could get a hundred comments to that simple post you blogged about. To start with this, the Digg button will be automatically added to the top-left corner of the post when you publish the post. I would recommend you to click the button once and submit the post to digg. After that, diggers around the world would read the post and digg your post when they find it interesting. You can also recommend you friends to digg it. The easiest way, ofcourse is digging each others posts.

So, move on with these new features and enjoy your day at WUB. We would be adding more features in the future too.

The New WUB Template / RSS & Atom feeds

As Noushy has announced before, we will be applying a new template to WUB soon. We understand how eargerly you are waiting for the new template and we promise you a better looking and fast loading template. I have a good news for you, that the new template will be up within the next few days.

As we move towards the new template (the new WUB, as some of you may call it), we need all of your support and patience. During and after the process of changing to the new template, we would appreciate all you guys to report us of any errors, bugs or any other thing you want to see changed. You can always use the shoutbox or drop an email to Sharm or Noushy regarding any of the above.

We are also changing our RSS/Atom feeds to feedburner. For all those people who are using the RSS/Atom feeds, please change your feed URLs to the following.

We received some mails from our members in China telling us about blocking of our web site in China .
We are very sad that we couldn`t keep in touch with our beloved members , friends & authors in China .

We will try hard to solve this problem with the Chinese internet authorities and we hope that blocking of the World United Bloggers web site will be end soon .
